1. Can I apply to the MBA program before I take my GMAT?
Yes, you may apply to the program before you take your GMAT or before you have the other required documents in place, such as your references. Your file will be considered pending until all necessary requirements have been fulfilled. The MBA Director will help you through the application process.
2. Do I have to wait to begin the program in January or may I begin the program in the fall semester?
You may actually begin the program in the fall semester. The program is designed to begin in January with a cohort. However, program entry dates include both fall and spring. If you begin the program in the fall semester, you will be working on your specialization area first, followed by the CORE in the spring and finish with your internship, practicum, or research project in the summer. Many students take the fall program entry option.
3. Can I apply to the program anytime?
Yes. You may apply to the program anytime. We have what is called rolling admissions which means we have no actual deadlines until we are at program capacity. These are different than the application deadlines that are published for the other University graduate programs.
4. Can I take this program via distance?
You can take this program totally via distance with one exception. The first course in the MBA core requires attendance on campus for one week for orientation and team building exercises. This on campus week occurs the first week of the fall and spring semesters. This course is a prerequisite for all other MBA core courses, so you must take it during your first semester in the program.
Dates of the on-campus week for this academic year are:
August 25-29, 2008
January 14-18, 2009
5. Can I work while I am in this program?
We do not recommend that students try to work during the CORE semester which is 18 credit hours. If students need to work then we recommend that they work only part-time. The CORE semester is a very intensive and time consuming. We prefer that our MBA students are able to devote their full attention to their projects and coursework in order to be successful and have a rewarding experience. Students are also assigned to teams and those students that are working may not be able to provide the same amount of focus as those team members that are not working.
The Specialization area (12 credits) is designed to complete at the student's own pace and many are also offered via distance. Therefore, if a student is working full-time during this part of the program, they may design the appropriate course load according to their work schedule.
6. What if I am already working and I want to complete an internship with my current employer?
It may be very possible to complete an internship/practicum through your current employer. However, the internship/practicum must be qualified through the MBA office.
7. Will you help me with my placement for an internship?
Yes. We work really hard to find and place each student in a rewarding internship experience that matches the student's interest area with the employer's needs. We have many partnerships established with excellent companies for summer internships. We also require that our students provide an effort in networking and seeking internship opportunities. The CORE semester is designed to allow each student to hone their communication and presentation skills for the networking and employment opportunities provided.
8.Is the program accredited?
Missouri S&T is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges. During the 2008-09 academic year, the University will undergo an institution-wide accreditation review. Missouri S&T has maintained institutional accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools since 1913. Missouri S&T was last reviewed in 1998 and received re-accreditation for ten years. (This information is on the following website: http://accreditation.mst.edu/index.html)
The Business programs including the MBA program have officially applied for eligibility for AACSB (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation and we have been accepted for candidacy. The process is quite comprehensive and will take a few years to achieve. AACSB will be an additional accreditation status beyond the North Central Association Accreditation currently achieved through the University.
